John Hoder; Birdwatcher Collaboration; 10/2008

This series of drawings was inspired by a birdwatcher in Texas that killed feral cats to protect the endangered piping plover. I saw his mug in the paper and I thought he looked like a dangerous criminal. I did an image search online for other birdwatchers and found a bunch of equally menacing looking faces. I invited a few friends over and together we compiled an obsessive collection of drawings. The whole thing is a study in profiling strangers with pictures of themselves on the internet that are associated with the label, "birdwatcher".
